Members and guests enjoyed a fascinating guided tour of the Axarquía area’s moscatel route and other enchanting rural attractions.
The day-long trip started with a visit to the Lagar Tunante de Arriba farm near Almáchar, where owner Francisco (Paco) Ríos Lozano demonstrated centuries-old traditions of drying and selecting grapes (for wine or raisin production).
Next stop was the village of Almáchar, for a walking tour coinciding with the annual Fiesta del Ajoblanco (celebrating the area’s famous almond and garlic cold soup) and including a stopover at the newly opened boutique tourist apartments La Lipa, a visit to the Museo de la Pasa (raisin museum) and a wine tasting at Bodega Fabio Cullet.
From there it was on to the neighbouring village of El Borge for a visit to the Galería del Bandolero (19th century outlaws museum) and lunch at the Posada del Bandolero.
Organised by APTA (Asociación para la Promoción Turística de la Axarquía), the excursion also included the collaboration of guide Elena Sanchis from Plan A Málaga tours, the mayors of Almáchar and Moclinejo (Antonio Yuste Gámez and Antonio Muñoz Anaya, respectively) and Ezequiel Moya from the Galería del Bandolero.
Almáchar, El Borge and Moclinejo have just launched a ‘Corazón Moscatel’ route, joining forces to open up the area to more tourism.
