SEPTEMBER 2026 – Engrossing Tour of 112 Emergency Control and Call Centre

Members of the Costa Press Club and special guests were invited to a tour of the 112 Emergency Coordination Centre at Málaga TechPark, which takes emergency calls from the whole of eastern Andalucía and organises the response to them.

Ana Celia González, the centre director and head of the Civil Protection service, explained that, as well as operating the multilingual call answering service, the centre swings into action in times of crisis, such as forest fires and floods, ensuring help is coordinated and effective.

She emphasised that the first priority of the Andalucian Emergency Agency (EMA) is the protection of the population – and that anyone who is faced with an emergency and calls, for example, 999, or 911 (the UK and USA emergency numbers) is automatically put through to the 112 service.

The centre handles well over one million calls a year for Málaga province alone, many of which are redistributed to other organisations including the national government, Infoca (forest fires), Bomberos (fire brigade), Police, the Military Emergencies Unit, Cruz Roja (Red Cross), utilities and maritime rescue services.

Contact is also made with consulates if foreign nationals are involved.

The visit was followed by a meal at the nearby Hotel Posadas de España Málaga.
