FOUR CENTURIES OF CONSULATES IN MALAGA – 28th OCTOBER

Talk by Rafael Pérez Peña, author and editor of the recently updated book Historia del Cuerpo Consular en Málaga 1641-2026 (History of the Consular Corps in Malaga 1641–2026). Rafael is also the Honorary Consul of Portugal in Malaga.

Rafael is behind the roving street exhibition detailing the history of the different consulates on the Costa del Sol that is currently in La Cala de Mijas until the end of October. There are more than 50 countries currently with representation in Malaga and the Costa del Sol.

And also joining us for dinner and who will say a few words will be:

Marylee Wall, Consul General of Ireland – Ireland has only recently opened a new Consulate General in Malaga and currently holds the rotating presidency of the EU.

Marisa Moreno Castillo, Danish Consul – The oldest established consulate in Malaga is the Royal Consulate of Denmark

Wednesday, 28th October, 2026, in La Sierra restaurant in Cerro de Águila, (Mijas Costa), 7pm for 7.30pm.

The main talk will be in Spanish with the possibility of English headline summaries.

4 minutes’ drive from the A-7 or 10-15 minutes in a taxi from Fuengirola train station.

1. Leave the A-7 at the small turn-off right by Sohail castle car park and the river (Fuengirola) (km 1017 B/C) – not the big turn-offs for Fuengirola or Miramar shopping centre.
2. Follow the road inland behind Miramar shopping centre, past Fuengirola Cemetery and the sewage works, (it gets better, promise), through the valley.
3. Cross straight across/keep right at the only roundabout you find en-route a couple of minutes after leaving the A-7, then turn left into Cerrado de Aguila/Cerro de Aguila urbanización when you get there.
4. Pass the gatehouse, up the short boulevard to the top and the clubhouse restaurant is on your right (it is not in the padel tennis centre). Plenty of parking.

You can also approach from La Cala via the old hipódromo if you know the way/use Google.
