Born in Dumfries, of Irish and Scottish parents, Joan has been living in Spain for the last twenty-eight years. A history graduate, turned teacher, and later a management trainer, she is now a writer and novelist. Her work encompasses both historical fiction, crime fiction, contemporary women’s fiction and some non-fiction.
Many of her novels are set in Andalusia, particularly the historical ones which focus on two distinct periods in the country’s history, the Spanish Civil War and medieval Moorish Spain. Recently she started writing crime fiction and her Jacaranda Dunne mystery series is set in present-day Málaga. Originally she was a self-published author but now is pleased to say that she has Vinci Books as her publisher, so she can devote all her time to writing.
Besides being a member of the Costa Press Club, Joan is a member of the Society of Authors, El Colectivo Malagueño de Escritores, the Irish Writer’s Union and the Crime Writers Association. And when she is not writing she is exercising her dog or coaching her great-grandson to play golf.
